Our standard fabric – single ply 160S superfine polyester – is available in a wide choice of vibrant colours. 160-thread count (the number of threads per square inch of fabric) is considered to be high and means that the single ply fabric has a very supple and luxurious feel. This textile also has the important benefit of being easy to care for and maintains its looks and texture through low-temperature washing and ironing at home.
The high thread count gives a fabric that is durable and long wearing; but also has a beautiful draping quality that looks and feels wonderful.
We also offer a 2-ply polyester twill-weave fabric, which has a 140-thread count. This composite thread goes through a high-twist process, resulting in a uniform appearance. This easy-to-wear modern fabric gives a beautiful drape and looks wonderful on the wearer, while still being perfect for fuss-free home laundering and ironing.
With a higher thread count, our satin fabrics have a remarkable soft and luxurious sheen that is rare in manmade fabrics. As well as using satin for the lining of our academic hoods, satin is also used for sashes and stoles. Our choir robes can also be seen in theatre and television productions, please visit our gallery for examples.
